Visit to Cathays Cemetery, Cardiff Heritage Trail Walk

Cathays Cemetery open in 1859. Covering 110 acres it is one of the largest municipal cemeteries in the UK. The mortuary chapels, gateway and forecourt walls, and cemetery house on Fairoak Road are all Grade II listed structures.
Many famous people are interred in the cemetery including boxer Jim Driscoll, politician Alfred Thomas, 1st Baron Pontypridd, pioneer of airship flight Ernest Thompson Willows, ship owners William Reardon Smith and John Cory, and many more.
Please meet at the main gates on Fairoak Road (in front of the chapels).

Cathays Cemetery & The Clink Booking Form

The Clink Cymru at Her Majesty’s Prison Cardiff opened to the public in September 2012. Over 30 category D prisoners from HMP Prescoed and HMP Cardiff work full-time within the 96 cover restaurant and kitchen and train towards gaining nationally recognised City & Guilds NVQ qualifications before returning to their retrospective prisons at the end of the working day. Upon their release, The Clink Charity will help graduates find employment within the Welsh catering and hospitality industry.
Although situated outside the prison walls, the restaurant is a flagship example of a unique charitable project that is committed to reducing re-offending rates throughout Wales in partnership with HMPS.
The restaurant positively promotes the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners and also champions the wealth of quality, fresh and organic produce available throughout Wales with the vast majority of ingredients such as vegetables, fruit, meat and poultry and herbs coming for the farms and gardens department at HMP Prescoed.
The cost of this event is £20.95 (see sample menu) per head for a three course meal (excluding drinks, please note that only non-alcoholic drinks are sold at the Clink).
