Invitation to the keynote lectures. Exploring Territories: mapping the terrain graphic design education

8-9 September 2016 at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University

Exploring Territories is the second Graphic Design Educators’ Network annual conference. This year we will be exploring the physical, intellectual and existential terrain of our learning and teaching. Over two days, participants will navigate keynote provocations, workshops, paper and poster presentations, themed roundtable discussions and facilitated and non-facilitated networking.

Cardiff School of Art & Design staff, students and industry guests are invited to attend the keynote speaker lectures free of charge. RSVP please to astaples@cardiffmet.ac.uk


Darryl Clifton, Tracey Waller and Europa

Darryl Darryl Clifton is the Design Programme Leader and Course Director for BA Illustration at Camberwell. Tracey Waller is the Course Director for Graphic Design and Europa is a graphic design company based in London and run by Mia Frostner and Robert Sollis, Europa create graphic identities, books and publications, exhibition design, signage, art direction, editorial design and websites. Alongside their studio practice they run the second year of the BA Graphic Design course at Camberwell College of Arts.

Derek Yates & Mat Heinl

Derek Yates Derek Yates is the Programme Leader for BA Graphic Arts at Winchester School of Arts and author of Communication Design: Insights from the Creative Industries published by Bloomsbury/Fairchild. Mat Heinl is CEO of global independent creative business, Moving Brands.

Brave New Alps
10.00 – 11.00 Friday 9 September
Brave New Alps produce design projects that engage people in discussing and rethinking social, political and environmental issues. By combining design research methods with radical pedagogy, conflict mediation techniques and DIY making, project outputs are produced that combine pedagogical spaces, publications, websites, photographs, videos, guided walks, urban interventions and other public events.
